Central Pre-Mix History
In 1930, William M. Murphy incorporated Central Pre-Mix Concrete Co. in Spokane, Washington and started down an amazing path that helped revolutionalize the ever changing construction industry.
The first truck-mounted concrete mixers in the Northwest were put into operation by CPM in 1935. In 1939, CPM acquired Union Sand & Gravel. From the 1950's through 1980, concrete operations were opened in the Tri-Cities, Coeur d'Alene, Moscow and Yakima. In 1958, Central Pre-Mix Prestress Company was formed. CPM portable plants have provided concrete for innumerable projects throughout the west.
In 1981, CPM entered the asphalt paving business by acquiring Inland Asphalt Company. In 1986, CPM formed Interstate Concrete & Asphalt in Idaho. In 1994, CPM built the most modern block facility in the Pacific Northwest. Central Pre-Mix of Oregon was formed in 1997. In September of 1997, CPM joined Oldcastle Materials, Inc., a nationwide federation of local businesses. In 1998, ICON Materials joined the CPM group providing asphalt, aggregates, and construction in the Seattle area.
Acme Construction and Materials was acquired from British-based Hanson in 2000. CPM acquired Wenatchee Sand & Gravel in 2001 and started serving the entire basin area with the acquisition of Central Washington Concrete. In 2002, CPM expanded into the Sunnyside and Toppenish market areas.
In 2006 and 2007, several prominent Oregon companies joined the Oldcastle Materials Northwest group. These companies include Klamath Pacific Company, River Bend Sand & Gravel, Eugene Sand & Gravel, Bandon Concrete and Viking Redi-Mix.
Today, CPM Development Corporation is one of the largest producers of concrete, aggregates, and asphalt in the Northwest. CPM's success is attributed to the over 1,500 employees who work hard to maintain a record of steady growth based on quality, service, integrity, and, most important, safety.
CPM's first responsibility has always been to the customers. Each time a client completes a successful project, CPM has accomplished their goal. For over 80 years, CPM has demonstrated its ability to adapt to new technology and environmental concerns and meet the exacting schedules of the customers. CPM has met the challenges of the past and succeeded. CPM is eager to face the future...together with their customers, employees, and the communities in which they work.
