CPM Development History |
On November 24, 1930, when William M. Murphy opened the doors of Central Pre-Mix Concrete Co. in Spokane, Washington, ready-mix concrete was a new and quality product welcomed by the construction industry. The change from hand-mixing to plant-mixing resulted in a growing and innovative organization. CPM bought the first three truck-mounted mixers in the Northwest in 1935 and acquired Union Sand and Gravel in 1939.
Between 1950 and 1980, concrete operations opened in Washington's Tri-Cities area (Pasco, Richland and Kennewick, WA), Coeur d'Alene ID, Moscow ID and Yakima WA. In 1958, CPM started a precast and prestressed concrete operation, and today remains a leader in the construction of quality building systems and bridges throughout the region. CPM portable plants have serviced innumerable projects throughout the Northwest. In 1981 Inland Asphalt Company was purchased and in 1986 CPM formed Interstate Concrete and Asphalt Company.
In 1997, CPM became part of Oldcastle Materials Group, a subsidiary of CRH plc of Dublin, Ireland. Since that time additional companies have been added to the Northwest Group of Oldcastle companies. They are: ICON Materials - Seattle, WA; Central Washington Concrete - Wenatchee, WA; Wenatchee Sand and Gravel - Wenatchee, WA; Valley Ready-Mix - Sunnyside, WA; Graham Morris - Toppenish, WA; Riverbend Sand & Gravel - Salem OR; Egge Sand & Gravel - Eugene OR.
